General Alto questions

Who is Alto?
Alto Solutions, Inc. d/b/a AltoIRA (Alto) is a Nashville, TN-based administrator of self-directed individual retirement accounts. We are not a registered or licensed broker, dealer, broker-dealer, funding portal, cryptocurrency exchange, investment advisor or investment manager. As such, we offer opportunities to use retirement funds to invest in alternative assets—things outside the public markets—but we do not provide investment advice or recommendations about any specific security offering, investment or asset. Alto®, The Alternative IRA®, the Alto logo and Alto CryptoIRA™ are trademarks of AltoIRA.
‍Are the tax benefits of an Alto IRA the same as those for IRA accounts held at a brokerage or investment firm?
Yes! Our self-directed IRA model puts the investor in the driver’s seat of their retirement account, allowing them to select the investments they want, all while maintaining the same tax-advantages as other IRA accounts.
What will this cost me?
We're waiving $100 in account fees for 12 months. This will cover your annual fee for our Starter plan. If you decide to make a private investment or bring your own deal, you will be prompted to upgrade to our Pro plan ($250/year), which would be $150 for the first year after your $100 credit towards your account fees is applied. You will also be prompted to upgrade to our Pro plan if you add a Checkbook LLC or re-register any assets held at another custodian.
What's next? What happens after the first year with Alto?

After the first 12 months with us, you will continue your current subscription and terms (monthly or annual). Our fees are paid by the credit card that's stored in your account and are securely processed using Stripe technology.

Transfers/funding your Alto account

How do I transfer my assets from Strata?
When you activate your account, you'll be provided with a pre-filled electronic transfer of assets form. Simply e-sign this and we'll work with Strata to transfer your assets and cash (if applicable) to your Alto account.
When can I get access to my money?
Once you have activated your Alto account, you will be able to transfer funds from LendingClub to us. It will take 1-3 business days for LendingClub to send funds to us.
How can I move additional funds to Alto?
Once you have activated your account, you can transfer funds through any of the following methods:
  • Transfer available cash from your LendingClub account
  • Transfer cash from a bank account
  • Transfer cash from another existing retirement account (401k or an IRA)
Can I move my other assets over to Alto?

You may transfer investments to your Alto account as long as they are private assets and are currently held in another retirement account. Re-registering assets will require an update to the Pro plan.

Do I have to pay any taxes or penalties if I transfer or rollover funds from an existing IRA or inactive 401(k) account to Alto?
In most cases, there’s no penalty to transfer or roll over to an Alto account. But we think it's a good idea to always consult your tax advisor for more information.
